Lucy

We’ll love you Lucy Loo, for as long as we have you…. 💖
You might remember our sweet deaf puppy Lucy, who was shared on our public page in December. Lucy, who is just over a year old, had already been in two homes and a shelter before coming into Boxer Haven Rescue. When she started peeing in the house and her crate, it quickly became evident this was not normal, and she was taken to the vet for an urgent appointment. She had a severe urinary tract infection, but unfortunately, that was not the only issue Lucy was facing. Her kidney numbers were very abnormal, and our veterinarian informed us that Lucy very likely had chronic kidney disease. This is not a diagnosis we ever want to receive, but certainly not in a pup of Lucy’s age. Her UTI cleared up nicely, but unfortunately a new set of labs confirmed the worst. Chronic Kidney Disease, for which there is no cure, and will shorten Lucy’s life. We had some agonizing choices to make. 💔 Fortunately, Boxer Haven Rescue has some AMAZING fosters, who are willing to step up, even in the hardest of circumstances. So, we arranged for Lucy’s last transport, to her forever foster family, where she will live out her life as a hospice foster. As long as Lucy is comfortable with a good quality of life, we will do our absolute best for her. We don’t know how long she has, but it could be as short as six months, or as long as a couple of years. What we do know, is that this precious girl will be well loved for however many days, weeks or years she has left. ❤️‍🩹

As you can imagine, caring for a hospice foster can be quite draining on rescue resources. Lucy must eat prescription food, which costs $115 per month. Her kidney disease also makes her more susceptible to UTIs, which means we will likely have regular vet bills for this sweet girl. This of course is in addition to her regular vaccinations and general wellness visits. That is where you come in! Any support you can provide will go a long way to covering the cost of Lucy’s food and vetting.

The average costs of some common vetting Lucy will require:
💲Exam: $55
💲Urinalysis: $55
💲Urine Culture: $120
💲Blood Work: $97
💲Antibiotics: $13
💲Prescription Food: $115

We could not save any of these amazing boxers without your generous support, and we are eternally grateful for each and every dollar. As a reminder, Boxer Haven Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible.
