Adopting A Boxer
Boxers make great companions, they are lively, loyal, loving and super goofy. Be prepared to laugh every day after bringing a Boxer into your home!
Boxers are high energy dogs that require obedience training, human affection and attention. They love their families very much and by nature will protect them. Boxers should never be kept outside for extended periods of time no matter what the temperature is outside. They will thrive in a home that has time and patience to teach them new tricks, provide structure, affection and lots of exercise. Boxers forget just how big they are and think they are 60 to 80 lb lap dogs! By nature they are very patient and tolerant and known to do well with children but often forget their size and strength. Boxers unfortunately are prone to health issues as they age, regular veterinary care is must for this breed.
We believe Boxers are simply the best, but they may not be a perfect fit for every home! Prior to adopting a boxer, we ask that you research the breed to ensure it’s a good match for your home and lifestyle.
NOTE: Boxers are so cute and typically attract a lot of interest! Our mission is to place each Boxer with the perfect home for them. We do NOT adopt on a first come first serve basis. Additionally, we only adopt to Michigan residents, in order to ensure we are able to complete a Home Visit, and remain available to our alumni in case of emergency.

Application Process
We are proud that Boxer Haven is run 100% by volunteers, we all love the breed and can’t wait to help you find the perfect addition to your family! Please be patient with us as we review and process the applications!
- Step 1: Complete online application Please note, if you found one of our available Boxers listed on Petfinder, you still need to fill out our application HERE
- Step 2: One of our volunteers will be reaching out to your veterinarian and your references. To speed this process up we request that you call ahead to your vet and provide permission for them to give us information about your current or past animals!
- Step 3: We will conduct a phone interview; this call will take about 45 minutes to an hour. We want to make sure we really get to know you to help find your perfect match! During this interview please feel free to ask all questions you have about the rescue or Boxers in general!
- Step 4: One of our volunteers will reach out to schedule a home visit. This gives us the perfect opportunity to meet your family, current pets and see where one of our boxers will spend the rest of their life! We want to learn as much about you as we can to ensure it’s a perfect match! It is critical that all residents of the home are present during the time of the visit!
- Step 5: Once the first 4 steps are completed, we will send you an approval email. After you receive the approval letter, we will keep your application in our database for up to 12 months and notify you via email when a new Boxer is available to adopt!
- Step 6: You are getting so close to adding a Boxer to your family! We are happy and proud that our foster parents help determine what home is a perfect fit for our Boxers. They will reach out to you to set up a meet and greet with the Boxer. During the meet and greet we kindly ask that all residents (human and animal) are present during the meeting and greet! Please note the Boxer will be going home with the foster family following the meet and greet. Exceptions may apply but will be made on a case by case basis.
- Step 7: It’s important to us that we provide at least 24 hours for you to discuss the meet and greet as a family and determine if this Boxer is the right fit for you. This is a big decision for you and Boxer Haven, that we don’t want to make in the moment!
- Step 8: You have contacted the foster family and let them know you would like to add the Boxer to your family. If Boxer Haven agrees we move forward and fill out the paperwork and set up a time for you to pick up your new Boxer!
